Four suspected members of an alleged robbery syndicate have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a gold dealer at Wassa Akropong in the Western Region, during which gold and other valuables worth more than GH¢94.5 million were stolen.
The suspects have been identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, also known as IK; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias Mallam; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias Okese 1; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias Brefo.
According to police, the four suspects allegedly attacked the gold dealer and made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530,000, an iPhone XR and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.
The arrests followed investigations into the robbery, which police believe was carried out by an organised criminal syndicate targeting the victim.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to recover the stolen gold and other items and to determine whether additional accomplices were involved in the operation.
Police have assured the public of their commitment to combating violent crime and bringing all persons connected to the robbery to justice. The suspects are expected to be processed for court after investigations are concluded.
